Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, inaugurated several healthcare projects worth over Rs. 15 billion on Tuesday. An official notification also stated that a sum of Rs. 26 billion has been approved for initiatives aimed at improving healthcare facilities in the province.
The Chief Minister described the grant of Rs. 26 billion as a record, and emphasized the importance of these initiatives in providing excellent healthcare to the people of Punjab.

One of the initiatives announced by the Chief Minister is the installation of a cyber knife machine at the Nishtar Medical University in Multan, at a cost of Rs. 1.2 billion. This machine will be used for the treatment of cancer patients. Another initiative is the supply of a linear accelerator machine to the Allied Hospital in Faisalabad, at a cost of Rs. 1.25 billion.
This machine will also be used for the treatment of cancer patients. In addition, a linear accelerator machine will be installed at the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital in Gujarat, at a cost of Rs. 1.3 billion.
The Chief Minister also announced the construction of a new cardiac facility in the province, as well as the expansion of the Institute of Cardiology in Wazirabad with 200 additional beds. The expansion of the Institute of Cardiology will cost Rs. 5 billion, and will include the supply of gamma camera electrophysiology apparatus and a transit time flowmeter for the treatment of cardiac patients. Land for the development of the institute has also been purchased for Rs. 385 million. In addition, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of a pharmacy at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, to provide medications to patients.
